Irresistible Poison
By: Rhysenn

Summary:
Under the influence of a love potion, Draco learns that poison doesn't always bring death -- there are other ways to suffer and live. Chemical emotion runs feverish as Harry and Draco discover the intoxication of love.

***

Another bonding piece. It seemed really true to me, how that you seem to start seeing a different side of a person when they're in love with you: more vulnerable, more open, somehow... and how because of that new perspective, it's not impossible for you to love that person back... regardless of what you use to feel towards them. Good piece; the emotions were done brilliantly.

California Pizza Kitchen, KLCC

Posted by eirene83 at 12:15 AM on September 2, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants.

I've been having this craving for pasta for a really long time now, despite going to Italiannies twice last week... Either subconsciously I really miss pasta (I used to have it for dinner on a near weekly basis in Sheffield), or I'm apparently not ordering enough pasta to satisfy my cravings... So once again, it's pasta tonight. At California Pizza Kitchen, because
a) my mom likes the place; and
b) she didn't seem too eager for Italiannies...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Cafe Mocha
I really like this; the shot of Hershey's syrup makes it taste so much richer, and there's no powdery after-taste I normally associate with anything mocha.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Tuscan Hummus

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Pepper and Garlic Sausage Penne
During my first trip to CPK, I ordered this, and I think I always will... It's really great. Spicy and tangy, it's really hard to tire of the taste of this... Also probably because I love everything that goes into the pasta... The peppers add a sweet note to the overall dish... Yummy... and my mom agrees with me too! Which is a pretty rare occurence, unless it's dessert.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Tomato Basil Spaghettini  with Grilled Basil Chicken
My first time trying this... Taste-wise, it reminded me a lot of my dad's Angel Hair Pomodoro at Italiannies. Could do with more basil too... but the grilled chicken tasted pretty good. My mom take a few helpings of it, which was surprisingly since she never has anything good to say about dishes that involve white meat... (Too dry, she claims)

Still, I think I should have had more than my fill of pasta to last me for the next few days... Except now I have the urge for some garlic bread... I miss those frozen garlic baguettes I throw into the oven a few minutes before serving up pasta... Cheap, but great!

PJU 7

Posted by eirene83 at 04:14 AM on September 4, 2006.

It's kinda scary, a little, how Charlotte usually seems to be the one introducing me to people like first, Shaun and now tonight, Amar... (Charl, how do you keep meeting people like them?) I thought Shaun was unique; heck, Shaun thought he was unique... Amar just managed to prove us both wrong by being one of those people that words just cannot describe, so that you can only shrug helplessly and say, "It's just well... them!" and yet, I think everyone will still understand what you're trying to say... Well, if they've met them before, that is...

Well, actually... how all this came about was because I got a late-night call from some unknown number... Which actually turned out to be Charl inviting me over to her (new) place for a party. I'm actually amazed she still has my mobile number, considering that she hasn't had to call it for the past... 3 years, I think... I usually delete the numbers after a year or two since in most cases, the numbers just usually become deactivated. But then again, that's me...

Surprisingly, it wasn't all that difficult locating Charl's new place... After several (recent) experiences with some of my other friends' direction and explanation, I've grown a little wary about them being all that accurate. Lol, as Charl put it (while tossing her hair too, mind you), but of course it's accurate...

It's a little startling, I guess, how the number of Amanians have dwindled over the years... Everyone's somewhere these days. We have more luck meeting up with everyone else at, oh say... Notts Games or something. There was me... and there was Ying. And obviously, Charl

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Still, things haven't changed really that much. We're still sitting around bringing up some of the same old topics for conversation. We're still talking about the same people... But we've also grown old and 'mature' and 'responsible' and talk about work and companies and the Government too... *grin*

Lol... we also apparently can't keep as late nights anymore too. Used to be, we could talk the whole night away, take a little nap, and continue on energetically the next day... Now, we were making our move about 12, since "tomorrow's not a holiday" *makes face* That never used to deter us...

Anyhow, I had fun... Probably because out of most of everyone, I was among the few (Not counting Cherie...) that lost touch with almost everybody... And besides, it's always always fun meeting people. Seriously. Especially when it's someone who can make you sigh, roll your eyes, smile good-naturedly and feel excited, all that the same time... But then again, that's just me

Monday filler

Posted by eirene83 at 04:15 AM on September 5, 2006.

I was supposed to follow my parents up to Penang this morning and come back in time to dash off to KK... Until I realised that the dates overlapped... So yeah, had to cancel on my parents... And now, I'm looking after the dog for the next 2 days until I leave in the morning and hope that the dog will be okay until my parents get back in the evening...

It's kinda nice to be home alone...

Got my contact lens!

Posted by eirene83 at 04:23 AM on September 5, 2006.

I ordered them on Sunday and they said it would arrive either today or tomorrow... Was hoping that it could arrive by today and called the optician to ask them to rush the supplier... Thankfully, she called me to say that my contacts have arrived so now, I don't have to worry about swimming around blindly (and with a prescription that's past -3.0, everything's really bleary unless it's 6 inches from my face...). Makes me wonder sometimes what it would be like to have clear vision when I wake up daily without having to put on my specs... though the bleary vision is handy to convincing myself to go back to sleep instead of waking up

Anyway, paranoid me is going to go check on her bag again just in case she missed something... Though goodness knows what. I've already been through things twice and I really don't think I'm missing anything... Oh, and I need to shower too

Beneath You
By: Cinnamon

Summary:
Draco had no idea that the repercussions of stealing Potter's journal and shoving it down the back of his trousers would be so extreme. Featuring nefarious plots, the mating rituals of Slytherins & double-crossing spells. (Also contains Ron/Pansy.)

***

Once again, another bonding piece, this one by accident as well. (LOL, Harry-Draco accidental bondings seem to be quite a popular plot.) Amusing, especially the part involving Ron-Pansy... I got a really strong sense of deja vu at that bit, but then again, all things considered, it's really not surprising... And highlights on whether sometimes, people are together simply because circumstances so happened... or is it something stronger...

KK Day 4

Posted by eirene83 at 01:30 AM on September 14, 2006 in Travel Log.

We skipped the hotel breakfast this morning a friend of a friend of Aunty Janice (I think) was going to take us out for yee tau mai... (Does it translate to being fish head noodles? Anyone? I'm not too sure on this, since I've never tried the stuff before...) Kinda disappointed since I was looking forward to getting the omelettes today, since I had to skip them the first 2 days, for fear of sea-sickness and lack of time...

It's a bowl of dry noodles with spring onions, minced chicken and fried shallots on top.. (Correct me if I'm wrong; I usually never eat this stuff...)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And there was this huge bowl of soup, slighty sourish... tomato-based, chock-ful of pieces of fish, fish stomach, and all other manner of fishy goodness...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The noodles were pretty good, and the soup wasn't too bad... though I had a really hard time swallowing the stuff that wasn't easily identifiable as fish... I'm just not really a big fan of weird parts of animal. I also don't like my food being slimy in texture... And combinations of that two will make my stomach churn and my gag reflex to kick into action...

After brunch(?), we mainly wandered the city looking at random stuff like
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Vegetables
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Fruits (The watermelons were really really sweet and juicy! Yummm...)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Dried and frozen fish; prawn and fish crackers... Apparently the shop sold crocodile meat too, not that I saw any...

Check-out time was 3pm (thanks to the fact we couldn't check in until about 4.30pm), and our flight was supposed to be at 5... We made it to the airport with lots of time to spare. Too much time actually, as we found out 30 minutes later... Because the plane was grounded in KL due to heavy rains... It was 4pm. It's about 2 and a half hours from KL to KK... The plane still hadn't left yet. The earliest, most optimistic time we could expect to fly would be aout 6.30pm...

Hours to kill... We ended up sitting at the one available urm... diner? Cafe would be too optimistic for it... eating chicken wings. Did I mention that the people here must really love chicken wings? We were served it for lunch 2 days in a row, and whilst walking through their pasar malam, we entered into this smoke that came from abou 6 different chicken wing stalls... all in the same place... Still, with that much competition, one thing for was sure, the chicken wings were good!!

Anyhow, the plane managed to arrive at about 6.40pm. (Either it took off in the rain, or it attempted to fly anyway, in the rain...) We got back to LCCT about 9.30pm, and by the time the Aerobus reached KL Sentral, it was close to 11pm. Tiringgg...

(Oh and I found out that in KK, Gardenia has a wide range of beverages. I had to look twice to make sure I wasn't mistaken at the restaurant. I wanted to try it out but couldn't. There was a Gardenia vending machine at the airport but over it was pasted that infamous sign: ROSAK! Sigh... What a letdown... The drinks ranged from things like soya bean and chrysanthemum to cola and ice cream soda... It would have been interesting to see what it tasted like... :D)

My new debit card

Posted by eirene83 at 03:51 AM on September 14, 2006.

My card was due to expire this month, and I wasn't really sure if I'd be getting a new one, since well
a) my bank account's in UK;
b) I'm currently in Malaysia
c) And I haven't used the card for some months, so the bank may decide to de-activate it...

As it turns out, I worried for naught... For behold, my new card!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Still a Solo... Dammit, wished I could change it to Maestro; that way, it'll be accepted for UK online purchases... But not complaining, since should I decide to visit UK in the next few years, I shall have accessible money at my fingertips! (Well, if the pin still works, that is.. )

Tenchu: Dark Secret

Posted by eirene83 at 03:55 AM on September 14, 2006.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I decided to get another new game for my NDS, despite already spending quite a huge amount this month... I figured, if I bought a new game, I'd be occupied (hopefully) for the next couple of months and wouldn't need to buy some new book/magazine/go impulse shopping when I was bored...

So far, it's been pretty fun. Not as easy as HP:GoF, which is good! since it's taking me longer to complete the game. PLUS, any mission I complete successfully contributes towards the restoration of the village, and hence any mission I fail hinders the progress... actually setting me back. So obsessive me is refusing to save the game progress unless it's near perfect.

One annoying thing about Tenchu would be the sound effects... All the dying screams get on my nerves after a while; and the really pathetic roar of the bear sounds like some 5 year old kid stomping around and roaring in the playground. Unfortunately, I also can't turn the volume off since the background music changes to show when some ninja/samurai/bandit have spotted my presence. Other than that, it's a pretty good game!

Help!

Posted by eirene83 at 03:29 AM on September 15, 2006.

My mouse has been going crazy... I thought there was something wrong with my old mouse, maybe because I kept dropping it or something, so I decided to get a new one...

But the same problems have been cropping up with this new mouse too! Mainly it's been functioning as though I'm double-clicking (or more) when I'm not. 3 or 4 different windows open with the same folder; I accidentally close more than one browser window. Like I said, it's mainly acting as though I'm repeatedly clicking the mouse... When I'm not!

Does it have anything to do with the surface the mouse it on or something? Because it's really irritating... Sometimes it acts fine. Others, I just give up and use my touch pad...

Chocolate Cookies

Posted by eirene83 at 08:54 PM on September 18, 2006 in Recipes.

Ingredients:

1/2 butter, room temperature
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 granulated sugar

1 egg
1 tsp vanilla essence

1 cup flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 baking soda
1/8 salt

1 1/2 cup chocolate chips

  1. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  2. Add egg and essence and beat until incorporated.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  3. Add sifted flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt and mix until just incorporated.
(This was a little tough going, since the dough was quite dry... I added a little dollop of Planta, just to help 'smooth' the way, as my cookie dough was turning pebbly...)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  4. Fold in chocolate chips.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  5. Form into 1" balls and placed on greased baking trays 2 inches apart.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  6. Bake for 8 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are firm but the centre is still soft in a pre-heated oven of 180oC.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hmm, I thought the cookies would flatten naturally in the oven, but apparently it didn't, so I had to smash it down a bit with a spon half-way through baking...

But still, the cookies turned out great! Not the soft, chewy type I anticipated it to be; not sure if the recipe was meant to be the chewy types or was it because I overbaked it...

Nevertheless, I think it's pretty great. Intense, chocolatey taste, and even though my mom thinks it's a bit on the bitter side, I think it's fine. Thing about chocolate-based sweets is, if I make it too sweet, it's going to get nauseating after a few bites; so it being on the bitter side, makes it easier to eat... and it'll be great with a cup of chocolate or milk, to lessen the intense taste...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

(BTW, if you noticed those little white specks on the cookies, don't worry; I'm not suffering from dandruff problem. Those specks are just black pepper that I sprinkled on the tops of those that had black pepper mixed into the dough... So that I can tell which is which... )

Unthinkable Thoughts
By: Aidan Lynch

Summary:
When Harry and Draco first met in Madam Malkin's robe shop, neither of them could have anticipated how much loathing and mistrust would follow. But one day in their fifth year something happens which forces Harry and Draco to reconsider exactly what such abhorrence is founded on.

Little by little, each of them is overwhelmed by Unthinkable Thoughts, and they begin the voyage that takes them from their safe harbours of deep suspicion well out into uncharted waters. And the more they discover, the more the realise that things can never be the same again!

***

If anyone actually read it, this piece quite reminds me of Gold Tinted Spectacles... The story seems to play out in nearly the same way: The bonding, the increase in magic, excuses used by friends and staff to cover up... It's not as long as Gold Tinted Spectacles, and not as detailed... but I found it quite an interesting read; though I wished that there was a sequel to it or an epilogue instead of ending where it did.

Euro blogging by post

Posted by eirene83 at 02:03 PM on September 19, 2006 in Foodie stuff.

I've been surfing foodie blogs the past couple of days. It's so much fun reading about food projects that other people get up to; and it's such a nice warm tingly feeling inside, looking at all the pictures of great-looking food, knowing all the effort that went into it.

Then I stumbled upon EBBP. It's a lot like a secret Santa project; you get a name and address from the organiser and put together a small parcel of anything food-related: recipes, ingredients, cook books, something home-made even, depending on whether there's a theme or not and then send it off... And of course, someone else is also putting together a parcel for you.

It sounds like such fun! Reading it, I really wished I could take part except for the fact it's mainly confined to residents in Europe (postage gets really expensive) and even though the organisers are nice enough to allow some people overseas to join in, I just don't trust the Malaysian postal system enough. Fears of the parcel leaving not managing to leave the country; fears of parcel coming in somehow mysteriously disappearing... And besides, we're talking about food here: One week delay, and little tufts of mold could decide to make its home in your food.

Sigh... If only I was still in UK now... I could still sign up just in time for EBBP #6! This time of the year always reminds me of the Mid-Autumn Festival; it would have been nice to include mooncakes into the package and tell someone about how the festival came about... Sigh...

Music Meme

Posted by eirene83 at 12:49 AM on September 21, 2006 in Fun stuff as a favorite post.

I remember doing this back in A-Levels, except back then I was supposed to just randomly put down song titles that came to my head... This is much easier, hehehe...

  1. Open your music player and set to shuffle.
  2. Pick a song of your choice.
  3. Let it play, then let the shuffle do its work.

And here we go!! Just for fun, to see what kind of freaky answers get thrown up.

  • What was the song you chose, and why?
    Siti Nurhaliza - Seindah Biasa
Urm, because it's been playing in my head ever since I watched 'One in a Million' and it seemed pretty appropriate. A kinda "No matter what happens" type of song.
  • Your next weekend will be...
    Mario Winans - I Don't Wanna Know...
    That bad, huh?
  • What does tomorrow bring?
BSB - Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely

    Umm-kayss... O_o I sure hope not forever.
  • Today's theme song:
    Mulan - Reflection
Soo... I'm wishing that I could who I really want to be? I thought I already was... Hmmm
  • Getting married, you'll think of your partner thus:
Mariah Carey - Angel of Mine
Lol, so I'll think of my spouse as being heaven-sent... That's why I said, 'Yes', right?
  • Making a commitment is much like...
Billy Joel - For the Longest Time
Well, that's why we decide to commit right? Because we want it to last?
  • Falling in love brings this to mind:
    The Calling - Stigmatized
In some ways, this is pretty true... in some small ways, one way or another... *wince*
  • Six months from now, your life will be...
Romeo & Juliet - A Time for Us
    A perfect fairy-tale?
Haha, kinda hard trying to interpret the answers... Wasn't sure whether to just base it on the title, or the lyrics as well... But kinda fun.

Happily Ever After

LOL, this is perfect!! It's so wickedly funny!

If, like me, you're one of those people who actually scoff at the idea of Disney princesses having some "happily ever after ending" with some prince who fell in love with them and decided to kiss their 'corpse'/decide to go on a quest to find some 100 year old princess/fell in love at first sight with some maid or whichever fairy tale you've read... you'll love this Off-Duty Disney Princess!!

This will be just great for anyone who's anti-Disney... I mean, not that I've got anything against those Disney princesses... but c'mon, let's be a little realistic here and think of what life could be like after that "ever after" ending they show us.

A short snippet:

Rapunzel: It’s a wig. I hook it over the tower flagpole and rappel down whenever I feel like it.

Hahaha, now that's one princess I like! *grin* Rapunzel, oh Rapunzel; let down your hair!

Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.
Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.
If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.

I don't remember feeling this way for a long long time now. There was a time when I could remember sinking into a funk practically used to something that happened every few months or so... Then it stopped. Or rather, I got better.

But now, I don't know. Craving depressing songs isn't exactly a healthy addiction... And a definite sign of my being in a funk.

Sigh, but then again, the state of my mind isn't exactly a cheerful place to be right now, for certain reasons, so... yeah... I hope it'll pass fade away soon...

Broken

Broken - Evanescence

I wanted you to know
I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph;
I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

Because I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

You've gone away
You don't feel me here, anymore

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn,
and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

You've gone away
You don't feel me here, anymore

Aesop

Posted by eirene83 at 09:07 PM on September 26, 2006.

Before this, the only Aesop that I knew of were the fables... You know, those short stories by the Greek guy which all (inevitably) had some sort of moral behind it...

Today, I got introduced to another Aesop... the Australian skin care. My skin's been acting up terribly lately; god knows from stress, not enough rest or probably due to the previous range of skin care I was using. My bet would be the last, since the previous time I went through massive stress and activity, the only bad thing(s) that happened to me were horrible tempers, huge black shadows under my eyes, and pimples.

Using this lot of products reminded me a lot of Chem lab. All the stuff were in those black glass bottles and there were proper ratios that I had to follow while mixing(!) the stuff together...

The price range isn't much different from other skincare available on the market, but it's already done heaps of wonders in just a few days usage compared to the rest... Plus, it's supposed to last quite a long while, depending on how heavy the usage is. So we shall see... Beside, the stuff smells great! One of them even leaves my skin smelling like Turkish Delight!

Deja Vu

It doesn't feel like it was a year ago... But it has been.

It felt a little off, being in the same area, seeing the same stalls being set up and realising that people were preparing for the DeepaRaya celebrations and that yes, it has been close to a year now and not just a few months ago, the way it feels to me.

It feels weird.

約定

Posted by eirene83 at 05:11 PM on September 29, 2006 in Music - Songs & Lyrics.

Repeat (*)

你會記得 我們的約定
一輩子幸福的約定
為你寫的那首歌
他也偷偷的掉淚了

你會記得 我們的約定
我比以前還更愛你了
聽着風我也笑了
他一定會告訴你的
我更愛你了
