Ms Michele

Posted by eirene83 at 12:46 AM on April 3, 2006 in .

Whoop!! Someone is in touch with Ms Michele! She was my Lit teacher during A-Levels, and one of the coolest teacher I've ever had. Our class had so much fun together; all the outings and the parties... and well, it all ended when we graduated A-Levels and lost touch with Ms Michele. Before I left for UK, I still called her once in a while and got her email... but then, the emails came bouncing back and I lost her number, and no one seemed to have any idea how to contact her...

Until, this week when Li Ming called up. Apparently, one of our old clasmates was still in touch with Ms Michele and that she was going off to Ireland for good in a few weeks. So a get-together was organised!

Hehehe, Ms Michele still lives somewhere in Sri Hartamas, though she's moved from her original place... Man, that house was gorgeous, I remember. She decorated it herself and painted murals on the wall. It was really cozy and warm and so artsy looking. When I got to her new place, it wasn't quite like the previous house... but it was just as nice, though most of the things were already packed up. She decorated it with pottery and paintings she did herself...

Well, it was nice catching up with 2001/16 (my class) and the seniors. She taught us both and we kinda had a joint effort in producing a play. We laughed, caught up in news, had tea and loads of cakes and pastries and took photos. ^_^

I dunno why it's so orange-y though... Probably due to the flash, I think. Here's the few of us who were still around and could make it to the gathering. Though both our classes weren't that big, it was still quite a substantial number... most of whom are currently overseas, though.

(Jing Hui used to have really gorgeous long hair... but I think this hairstyle quite suits her too. Reminds me a bit of Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra)

Ohh... and Ethan was around! He's so big now! When we first saw him, he was just this tiny little baby. He's so precocious now and so shy!! Hehehe... It was like, "Aww, we knew you when you were in diapers" thing... Ms Michele's husband was already in Ireland, settling in and everything and she was going to go join him soon. Poor thing... must be rough having to move and being uprooted like that.

Anyhow, it was quite a short gathering, since we all reached about 5ish and Ms Michele was supposed to have some dinner thing with her sisters and friends at 7... So yeah... but it was good meeting up with her, and maybe hopefully, not entirely lose touch, this time.

I'm twenty-*bleep*!!

Posted by eirene83 at 12:59 AM on April 3, 2006.

It's my birthday today! Happy Birthday to me! Celebrated today by waking up early and discovering I had a sniffly nose and a not so nice feeling in my throat... Go me! Celebrating turning 2* by coming down with the flu. LOL... So first stop of the day before everything was to go get some herbal tea etc etc... Worked wonders to clear up my nose. Then had to go reload my phone. My validity had died ages ago but I only reloaded today in case I needed to make any calls.

Anyway, as mentioned... I've long planned to go shopping today (Kiasu reason: I get a 20% discount at Giordano on my birthday and there was a pair of pants I had my eye on for some time.) Off-loaded a batch of books at MPH for the Charity Book fair but didn't get any time to look around since my mom was with me. (MPH Centennial sale is on and they're offering 25% discount on 100 must-read titles...) Went to collect Pearl magazine from Jusco and waited while my mom redeemed her points for vouchers... not that we were buying anything from Jusco, but I think she just wanted to get it done since she was there and not rushing for time.

Finally went to Giordano and discovered... all the displays had changed. Again. The current stock is all about their linen pants, which I'm not particularly fond of after getting a pair a few years back. Couldn't find the pants I wanted though, until I asked one of the staff... only to discovered it all neatly stacked at one far-away, easily missed corner. *phew* Thought I lost my chance to get it... and went "Woe is me" again when the size I normally wear was too loose and they didn't have one size smaller. Luckily, the outlet in KLCC did (I made them call up other outlets to check... I really like those pants!) so they made a transfer request and all I have to do is wait for them to call me when it arrives. I also bought a t-shirt from the Disney collection... It was too cute to resist, despite being a bit pricy for a normal tee (RM34...) but just look at it! It's so cute!!

That was all I needed to get from MV anyway, so my mom and I decided to go look at shoes again. Vincci and Bata had some new stock in and we went through the fun of trying to find something that fits my mom... (Hahahaha... As if that was always possible...) Man, the situation seems to be getting worse. There was this new design. I call it peacock shoes because of that shade of blue and the feathers attached to it... They had size 3... and it was 1/4 inch too loose. And even after putting in padding, it was still loose. Not that I had any luck either in finding anything. Maybe it's just not our luck today to find nice shoes in our size... Oh well, not that I really am in need of new shoes...

Since I didn't have anything else in mind, we went back... Yeah, shocker isn't it, that I didn't go window-shop more? But I've bought a lot of new clothes lately and haven't worn them all, and I wasn't quite in the mood to go shopping anyway with a runny nose... And ended the day by having dinner on my poor sad lonely self. :p Hehehe... My parents have their food catered and since 3 nights out of 5, I'm at class, I'm not included for dinner... So had to source my own food today. Not that I really mind or anything since I've a celebration scheduled for tomorrow. ^_^ Anyway, cheerios... I'm off to bed and praying that the flu disappears tonight.

Left Alone

Posted by eirene83 at 01:08 AM on April 3, 2006.

I have been abandoned!! *sobz*

Well... not quite all that dramatic ler... Aileen and Gary didn't come for class tonight, and all our usual seats were 'stolen' by other students, so Melisa and Laura had to sit elsewhere... so I was stuck in a sea of mostly male students. T_T

It was quite weird... because we all have our usual places we choose to sit in... and these guys' usual places... were empty. So I didn't quite get why they moved places today... and caused me to be so abandoned. Luckily, it was just doing questions and stuff and not getting into groups and discussion... because if it was, I would have ran the hell out of there... It's not anything, it's just weird because I was the odd one out there since they all knew each other and were talking around my head and everything.

*SNIFF*

I just don't get why they don't understand the fact that the row is usually occupied by us all and not sit at their own, un-occupied places.

Well.... anyway, don't think something like tonight will occur again anytime soon. I hope. *cross fingers*

Pizza Hut sucks!

Posted by eirene83 at 01:23 AM on April 3, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants, Foodie stuff.

Man, I'm so irritated with the service at Pizza Hut! I usually order Domino's when I get a crazing for pizza but lately I wanted something different, so I hunted for Pizza Hut's online menu. They serve so much different stuff; the varieties of pizza is more and so are the side orders PLUS it's also much cheaper price-wise.

The first time I ordered from them, the pizza arrived outside of the 30 minutes delivery time but I shrugged it off, thinking maybe it was because I'm technically a new customer. (I haven't ordered from them in years, so yeah... newbie.) Today I called them again.... and again the pizza was late. I mean, it's only by a few minutes and I'm probably making a big deal out of it... but frankly, if you can't make it within 30 minutes, then why make a statement of it?? McDonalds doesn't promise delivery within a certain time; they just tell you roughly when to expect the food. Domino's promise but they also offer something for when they are late... So frankly, I think Pizza Hut's statement is worthless.

And the restaurant managed quite irritates me too. She said that since the pizza is already here (I called Customer Service to complain), there wasn't any problem and she hung up the phone.

Grrrr... Now, I don't care how many varieties of pizza there are or how cheap. I'm NEVER calling Pizza Hut delivery again! If I really want to eat, I'll go to the branch in MV... or OUG...

And dammit, I'm missing a prawn and a calamari ring from my Crispy Catch order!

April's Fool day (Or how to have an exciting night)

Posted by eirene83 at 01:42 AM on April 3, 2006 in Fun stuff.

And I spent the day at home...

I was supposed to go for my 9am class... but woke up at 8am, rolled around in bed, went "ugggghhh" and went back to sleep. Blame it on the late night/early morning?...

After the dinner last night, some of us decide to go clubbing... except
1)No one knew where to go...
2)And even when we had decided, no one knew where the club was...

I had a rough idea of the location, so we decided to try our luck and go there and look for it.... There was 6 of us, so we took 2 cars. Aileen was in my car and at first we were supposed to follow the other car... except apparently, they had no idea how to get to KL... So I had to take the lead. Wasn't too hard, I knew the roads and where I wanted to go.... But man, I had to keep making sure I didn't lose the other car by accident.... So, no beating the red lights or sudden turns and proper indication of my lights...

And when we got there... the club was actually quite easy to find. Not too bad, nice layout and decor... Most of the music was danceable, though only Aileen and I were dancing at first... The rest felt that the beat didn't quite induce dancing. Or maybe it was the lack of alcohol... Out of the 6 of us, 2 others and me only managed to down 1 shot... and that was about it.... because things were suddenly and very unpleasantly interrupted by a police raid.

Normally... that wouldn't be a problem. Except one among the party, though, NOT a minor... was still below the legal age. Of all our luck. Things got rather tense while waiting to see what would happen... and well, yeah... he got called up along with 3 other guys. After that, things became something of an unpleasant adventure.

One guy went first in his car, and the other 3 piled into my car and we tried to make our way there. Except we had no fricking idea where the police station was. I mean, I know KL, yes.... but to get to a police station I'm not quite sure where?? That was a bit hard... So yeah, called up my dad to verify roughly where it should be... (I think it gave him a bit of a scare since I got my friend to call and he must have probably thought I got into some trouble or other...) Then in the course of 1 night, I drove us to 4 different police stations.

First one, we just passed by outside on a reaaally major detour...
Second turned out to be the HQ and they redirected us...
Third was really confusing to get to and we thought we found the right one... and again we got new directions...
Well... we finally made it to the right one... and realised we made a really big circle driving around... We certainly became well-acquainted with the different police stations in the vicinity of KL and the roads of KL that night...

It was a bit of a scary time, especially for the guy... since none of us knew what was going to happen and of course, the police very unhelpfully didn't say a single thing except to wait. Well, we did try to cheer him up... and Aileen and I talked quite a bit of crap... fooled around... tried to get him to relax... and wait.

Which we did a lot of.

12am - Wait

1am - Wait

2am - First guy finally made it to the police station after getting lost for some time due to some... misdirection. Wait.

2.10am - Inspector finally arrived from god knows where and they went off to have their statements taken. Wait

3am - Wait

4am - Wait

4.10am - Finally the guy came out and was allowed to leave...

Nothing much happened. They just wanted to take the statements... but made us wait 4 hours for that. The club will apparently be fined RM2,000 for each underaged person they allowed in but otherwise nothing on the part of my friend - no records or blacklisting... though I think he'll probably be staying away from all these until he's legal... Man, I kinda feel bad since I was the one who wanted to go clubbing and he came along... But thank god nothing bad happened.

By the time we got everyone home and I rolled into bed... it was already 5.30am... So yeah, Happy April's Fool, people...

Flu update

Posted by eirene83 at 02:09 AM on April 3, 2006.

Day four:

No sign of flu improving. Losing ability to laugh and sing properly. Voice cracking up and on the road to laryngitis. Attempting to take deep breath hurts lungs and air passage.

Nose alternating between running and blocked.

Tonsil getting swollen on the left side.

Coughing getting more severe.

Due to severity of flu, almost drowsed off in class because of inability to breathe properly... Take a 4 hour long nap after class and loss of appetite led to dinner being only 2 hard-boiled eggs.

Need to get better fast, before the dreaded words of doctor, see, and medication come up in the same sentence.

P-A-R-T-Y!!

Posted by eirene83 at 02:35 AM on April 3, 2006 in Fun stuff as a favorite post.

Hello! I'm not sniffling anymore but my throat feels absolutely nasty today. I'm on my way to losing my voice... Yipppeee... Not. Big night out today! Did my usual errands of driving my mom around to the bank and to go buy fruits and stopped to get 3 doses of herbal tea. That stuff works and I figured if I drank enough of it, maybe the darn flu will clear up. (No such luck though... Throat felt better after each dose, but just goes back to being irritating and itchy when I talk.) Showered, napped and got ready to be on my way... (Yeah, I showered first since my mom said that taking a shower after I just got up was bad for flu... Probably something about my body temperature being low or something like that.)

Dinner was planned for 7.30pm and I tried to be there at 6 to do some stuff first... Operative word being tried. It was raining heavily on and off since the afternoon and the road in to MV City was jammed, because of the number of cars going to Bangsar. Not many cars were turning in to MV but the jam delayed me enough so I only reached at 6.30pm. Heheh, luckily still managed to get everything done. I had to drop off one last stack of books at MPH then wandered upstair to order a quart of ice-cream from Baskin Robbins... Crowd was too scary though (There were 20 people ahead of me, and I had roughly 30 minutes left before I had to go grab a table a Chili's) so I left and went back to MPH to buy a book. Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere... On the 100 must-read titles list and I had 35% discount thanks to a voucher. Fascinating book, theme being about people ignored by society who slips through the cracks in this world and enters the world below... I recommend it!

Bumped into Jonathan while checking out the Hong Kong dollar rates and killed time with him before heading to Chili's. Really, that place irritates me so much. I can't make a reservation and I can't be seated until most of the party have arrived. I mean, I need a table for 10. It's not like you can easily squeeze 10 people into a corner or something right... Sheesh... Good thing most people arrived between 7.25 to 7.40... and the seven of us who arrived first was squeezed into 2 tables. I mean, how to eat comfortably la like that?? (Anyway, they managed to get another table and joined it with ours later so it was no problem in the end...) But on the plus side, they seated us in this separate sort of room... I never knew Chili's had that, so the noise level was a bit reduced...

Heheh, it was fun! I finally met up with some people I haven't seen in ages and we spent so much time talking, we didn't manage to order our food till maybe about 8pm (Hehehe, guessed as much something like that would happen..) Though it was really hard since everything looked so good... and dang, the portions are huge!!!... I had Cajun Chicken Pasta.... Yummy chicken, utterly bland sauce and the garlic bread could have done with some more butter and garlic... And bottomless drinks ^_^.... I'm utterly spoiled by bottomless drinks; I just have to drink my value for money... (Once I went to Shokudo and drank about 6 cups of ice lemon tea... and ended up visiting the bathroom about 6 times too)

Overall, it was a great night.... I had fun, met up with some friends I haven't seen in ages, had good food and great company... And took a couple of photos!

Julia!! I'm so glad she managed to make it for my party... In fact, it was quite a last minute invite, since I was talking to Jonathan and wondering if she remembered me and told him to invite her along if she did. Well, he called her up, she did and he did and she came! I met her in the library of Taylors and somehow struck up a conversation and yeah, we really hit it off... So happy to be back in touch with her and finally have her email and mobile number so yea, must definitely see her again before she leaves overseas for her studies.

My free birthday brownie which Aileen made me get... by myself. *blush* It's quite weird telling the staff that it's your birthday and urm... I want my free cake? It sounds so much better when one of your friends sneak off discreetly and tell them for you... And I think I blushed like mad when they came in singing, 'Happy Birthday' though I expected something like that to happen... Sweet brownie... Too sweet... Between the 9 of us, we still didn't manage to finish it...

The girls... That's me in lime-green, in case you didn't know. Clockwise from left; Steffi, Aileen, Laura and Melisa...
All happen to study in BAC though Steffi is doing a different course from us. But it's so cool! Now my old friend has met my new friends and can come hang out with us during class on weekends!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The guys clockwise from right; Clarence, Lawrence, Terence, Jonathan
No, I'm not a guy.... but it would be rather weird just taking a picture of the guys alone, no?

And of course, my birthday haul!!!

Gorgeous, Greece-y looking top, earrings, gift vouchers and a crystal ram... (Aries is ram, right?)

Hehehe... Really fun night despite being sick... It's like you totally forget about being sick once you start to have fun... And it's nice being out and relaxing with your friends... I think we left about 10ish, and I went to Baskin Robbins to attempt again to get ice-cream. Bavarian Chocolate Mint... tastes just like After 8 (the chocolate) and totally unlike brushing your teeth with ice cream... And I just don't get, why must MV switch off their air-conditioning at sharp 10?? It was stifling hot by the time we all made our way to our cars...

Anyway, great night! And now to bed to attempt to go for my 9am Saturday class...

Quand je vous aimerai?
Ma foi, je ne sais pas,
Peut-être jamais, peut-être demain.
Mais pas aujourd'hui, c'est certain.

L'amour est un oiseau rebelle
Que nul ne peut apprivoiser,
Et c'est bien en vain qu'on l'appelle,
S'il lui convient de refuser.
Rien n'y fait, menace ou prière,
L'un parle bien, l'autre se tait;
Et c'est l'autre que je préfère
Il n'a rien dit; mais il me plaît.
L'amour! L'amour! L'amour! L'amour!

Battit de l'aile et s'envola;
L'amour est loin, tu peux l'attendre;
Tu ne l'attend plus, il est là!
Tout autour de toi vite, vite,
Il vient, s'en va, puis il revient!
Tu crois le tenir, il t'évite;
Tu crois l'éviter, il te tient!
L'amour, l'amour, l'amour, l'amour!

Translation:

When will I love you?
Good lord, I don't know,
Maybe never, maybe tomorrow.
But not today, that's certain.

Love is a rebellious bird
That nothing can tame,
And it is simply in vain to call it
If it is convient for it to refuse.
Nothing will work, threat or pleading,
One speaks, the other stays quiet;
And it's the other that I prefer
He said nothing; but he pleases me.
Love! Love! Love! Love!

Love is the child of the Bohemian,
It has never, never known any law,
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you!
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you!
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!

The bird you thought to surprise
Bat its wing and flew away;
Love is far away, you can wait for it;
If you wait for it no more, it is there!
All around you, quickly, quickly,
It comes, goes, then it comes back!
You think to hold it, it avoids you;
You think to avoid it, it holds you!
Love, love, love, love!

Love is the child of the Bohemian,
It has never, never known any law,
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me, I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!
If you don't love me,
If you don't love me, I love you!
But, if I love you,
If I love you, keep guard of yourself!

Dragon-I, Mid Valley

Posted by eirene83 at 03:08 AM on April 10, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I finally convinced my parents to go try Dragon-I today... I saw a review of it in a magazine and the lai meen looked really good, so I just had to try it for myself despite my brother saying that not much was good there.

Good thing too, because I personally thought it was pretty good... and so did my mom. And it's a great change from always going to Little Penang cafe, frankly...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My mom's order of hot and sour lai meen... It looks pretty gooky, but it was really something else! I've never quite enjoyed hot and sour after a first bad experience, but this wasn't too bad... though I always have preferred my noodles with soup. The dish slightly hidden behind the bowl of noodles on the left is some sliced beef thingy my dad ordered. Hmm... blah. Tasteless really, and cold, so I didn't quite see the point in it.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My order of lai meen with sliced beef in spicy soup. YUMMY!! It wasn't quite what I expected, but the soup was excellent. Spicy and slightly sweet; each mouthful of noodles went so well with it. And oh yeah, the noodles? It really is as great as what people say. I love my noodles cooked al dente and this was perfect chewiness though not too hard. Plus, I love how the noodles were in such long strands, uncut. After UK noodles, I can't stand having it cut into such short strands that it's a pain trying to eat it with chopsticks.

The meat that came along wasn't much to talk about though... I think it's just there to give you something to chew on besides the noodles. But man, the meal was great.

My dad ordered the siew loong pau as well, but I didn't enjoy it. The soup inside the dumplings was too sweet... like it had sugar added into it instead of the natural sweetness.

Hmm, anyway... will head back there sometime again to try different varieties of the noodles. I wanted to take photos of them in the process of pulling the mee... but by the time I got my camera out, they had already stopped <makes face>. Better luck next time...

Posted by eirene83 at 03:50 AM on April 10, 2006.

Went shopping with my mom. Again. Somehow, Friday just seems like the time for us to go gallivanting off somewhere for hours on end. Makes sense though, since Monday to Wednesday I have night classes and I just sleeep in so much on Thursday. So Friday is the day we go SHOPPING!

Haha, though it's quite tiring to always see MV so often. I mean, going there yesterday and today? But then again, it's because we find it hard to go shopping when my dad is around. We just feel like we have to quickly finish everything and go back. No time to walk around and stuff.

Still, didn't do all that much shopping actually. I collected my pants from Giordano. It's finally arrived from KLCC and I got it altered. I'm not fond of having to fold up the leg of the pants. Much neater if it's been shortened. Though, I dunno... getting it one size smaller... it still seems a bit loose... Augh, I dunno... anyway, it's too late now to think about all that.

Oh YEAH, on brighter note, I bought this really gypsy-ish top from PDI and a denim corset. I really love the whole off-the-shoulder look and I noticed the mannequin displayed at the front. The outfit looked so good that I just had to try it on. I LOVED IT! Okay, so the corset wasn't practical and it's a pain literally putting it on and all... But I couldn't get my mind off it, so I really just had to get it. Hehehe, besides... it makes me look like I have a smaller waist and a bigger bust... Hehehe... But as I told my mom... the point of a corset was to urm... be a literal pain while making people look good. Though she reminded me that I should make sure it goes well with the other stuff I have... So will have to do some mix and matching.

Eto... didn't do much though... Looked for a wallet for my dad since his current one is getting old and tatty... It's an interesting experience? I mean, I've never bought a wallet for a guy or anything because I mean, every guy I know uses one and well, you only need one... so it's weird giving a wallet to a guy when he already has one and doesn't need another...

Anyway, I bought so much today, that I probably won't go shopping again anytime this month. It's not like I need anything, and after today, I can't give in to my impulses anymore... Hehe, not if I want to save any money...

Ho Pau tan

Posted by eirene83 at 04:04 AM on April 10, 2006 in Recipes, Food, snacks & restaurants, Foodie stuff.

There was this really interesting article in the Sunday Star yesterday about where this guy was willing to pay RM5 for a fried egg. Apparently, it's not some ordinary egg, but ho pau tan or literally, wallet egg. It's where the yolk is runny and completely cloaked by the egg white.

I told my mom about it and she nearly fell off her chair laughing. She can't believe anyone would pay RM5 just to eat an egg... and after reading the article, she can't believe the chef made it to sound like it was so hard. And then I got a lecture from my mom AND my dad on how to fry an egg like that.

Hot oil is supposed to be the key to everything. Just swirl the oil around and over the egg and the white will bubble up to cover the yolk and you get a crispy golden edge. For the normal white that hasn't been over-fried, a hot frying pan with cold oil.

I had to listen to them both for 5 minutes on how to fry an egg. For me, an egg is an egg... It actually tastes the same too but the texture will be different depending on the temperature of the oil. Me, I like it not too runny with a splash of soy sauce and lots of pepper... I don't quite like having my eggs with melt-in-the-mouth texture, really...

Still, it's an experiment for anyone out there who likes eggs. You can keep trying over and over until you get it just right. And getting it wrong just means a popped yolk, or overly done, or something like that. All still edible. Hehe, unlike other cooking disasters that end up in the bin.

Jack's Place, One Utama

Posted by eirene83 at 04:52 AM on April 10, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants.

In a very roundabout way, somehow, I agreed to going out for dinner with Steph, Sugi and Clarence tonight. After phonecalls and messages (and emails on Steph's side), we finally got everything sorted out. Very last minute, as things tend to be with us.

Since dinner was agreed to be around 7.30ish/8pm... I decided there was no point in my skipping class. Better to attend half of it rather than missing the whole thing... Steph called me when I was parking my car at Brickfields... which was when I realised, nothing had been sorted out except for the fact we would be meeting up for dinner. *smacks head*

So we just decided to put it at OU and decide on where to eat when we were actually there. Time of event still depended on Clarence, since out of the 4 of us, he had the latest getting-off-work time. Still, despite the whole unsureness/where to meet/what time/who's coming and everything else... We all managed to get to OU aout 8.40? Pretty good, I would say... Was torn between Italiannes(?) and Jack's Place but comparing prices, JP was slightly cheaper of the two...

Somehow, Steph and Sugi took forever to arrive, despite my calling them before even leaving for OU... But we still arrived before them. So went ahead and ordered first. Our food had arrived at the same time they did. Hehe, I almost started eating first, totally forgetting about taking pix! Ehehe, thanks Sugi for stopping me in time!

Escargot!! Hehehe... I don't know how I can stomach eating snails when I can't stand oyster... Funny me, I guess... These were not too bad, though I still prefer the ones at either Klimt's or La Swisse... It was mainly garlicly and the sauce wasn't too dippable. (We had complimentary garlic bread, and I tried... but it was mainly butter/oil and didn't pick up the garlic from the escargot.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Mixed grill... Steph says the sausage looks obscene... It's all in your mind, Steph... Hehehe, it's just a sausage wrapped with bacon. I dunno... Despite JP coming out in reviews, the food wasn't all that incredible. Edible, but nothing I'd rave about. Though the beef steak was not too bad, the rest was quite normal stuff... Really, really normal stuff... Still, never try, never know.

Sugi ordered brownies since there wasn't anything on the menu she could eat (Hey, Sugi... I always wanted to ask you but kept forgetting; do you take eggs?) and Steph had fish and chips... Hey, was it better than the one you had at Chilis? You didn't say!

Anyway, we had loads of fun catching up... It's been so long since I saw Sugi (Steph's birthday last year, was it?) and despite saying we should meet up for dinner monthly, plans never quite materialised. Hehe, we ended up laughing so much and just exchanging gossip. I think we were the last table to leave, too... Still, they were nice enough to not glare at us or anything.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Oh oh, and I got a birthday present from Steph and Sugi!
Tadaa!!

It's just what I've always wanted! No, I'm serious!! I've been looking for a necklace like this for ages, but I never really found one that I like and I couldn't decide on the sort of design I wanted! Thanks, you two! I really really love it! Anyway, we should really meet up for dinner again, kays? And not wait for another 3 or  4 months! ^__^

QQ Cut, Mid Valley

Posted by eirene83 at 05:26 AM on April 10, 2006 in .

I had my hair cut/trimmed today. My mom's been pestering me for months and finally I decided to heed her advice... because I'm losing hair like crazy. The amount of hair loss daily... is just plain scary and even worse when I wash my hair. So, I've done practically everything that everyone suggested. I've done a hair spa (helped a bit, not much difference), conditioned my hair after washing (how's THAT supposed to help?), changed my shampoo (worked quite a lot, actually...) and now, the last on the list, get my hair trimmed.

Since I was already at MV, I decided to head to one of those places that does dry cut within a few minutes and all... Hmmm, it was quite like production at a factory: Pay, wait, get your hair cut, leave, next person.

I forgot to bring my camera so didn't manage to take any pictures... Not that I was in the mood too anyway, after breaking my nail when the stupid payment machine at the entrance of the shop spat out my RM10 note and on reflex I tried to grab it and ended up slamming my nail against the very hard surface of the machine.

Well.. I mean, the whole concept is interesting. It's so hygienically clean! I even got the comb they used while cutting my hair... Plus, no annoying stray hair bits since they used a vacumm to clean that off. But hair cut wise? Well... It's not really that good. I mean, my hair misbehaves sometimes, but one side of it never sulks... It's always good hair day on that side. They've managed to make it sulk. No matter how I comb it. Or style it. Even after washing my hair.

Aw maann... Now, I have to wait another 5 months for my hair to grow out and head to another hairdresser... a proper one... to remedy it. In the mean time... I dunno, tie my hair up and pretend nothing's different?

Midnight snack...

Posted by eirene83 at 05:18 AM on April 17, 2006 in Fun stuff.

Studying always has the tendency to make my tummy rumble... so decided to fix a little snack. Was too lazy to do anything much, so when I spied the can of sweet corn in the pantry, I figured it would make for the perfect snack: Pour in bowl, nuke it for 2-3 minutes, and enjoy...

Or so I thought.

Grabbed the can opener and the can and... tried to open the can... Operative word: tried. When I was in UK, I've always used the type of opener that has 2 handles. All you have to do is apply to can, press handles together and viola, can is punctured. The one I had is the old old type, one handle, push down and puncture can.

No matter how I tried... the damned can wouldn't puncture... I was so frustrated, if I had thought I had the slightest chance of success, I would have gnawed on the damned thing to open it... grrr!!! *bash bash bash*

One plan of simple midnight snack turned into a 5-minute wrestle with a can opener and one stubborn can...

When I FINALLY got the damned thing open, I was so triumphant, I whacked the can with the opener.. HAH! Take that! *cue evil laughter* So yeah... now, I am happy, full and vindicated.... Heheh

Ouran High School Host Club: Anime is out!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And it's been dubbed too! I was recently introduced to the manga by Aileen and it's really quite funny and cute... And now, the anime is out, dubbed by Lunar!

I just managed to get my hands on episode 1 yesterday and watched it on the spot... The storyline is somewhat different compared to the manga, but then again it usually is. Following the manga panel by panel would make for a boring anime...

Overall, I quite liked it... The voices were good and the music is not too bad. Best part I loved about episode 1 was the light bulbs... Hehe, you'll know what I'm talking about once you watched it... It's just so... haha, enlightening. ^_^

Go download it and check it out for yourself!

Butterscotch Buttons

Posted by eirene83 at 04:53 AM on April 18, 2006 in Recipes.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Today I got a little bored so decided to haul out my baking trays et al and attempted a recipe I had bookmarked a while back which one of my brother's far back ex-gf had made...

Ingredients:

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
125g butter
1 tbsp golden syrup
1 1/4 cup self-raising flour, sifted
(1 tsp vanilla essence, totally optional)

  1. Throw the sugar, butter and syrup into the mixing bowl. (Psst... Take it from me, chop the butter into smaller chunks first before attempting to blitz it with the mixer... Otherwise, you'll never make headway...)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  2. Mix it until light and creamy... and then stir in flour. Don't use the mixer... Otherwise, the batter is going to get really greasy because the butter will start separating.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  3. Heap mixture into 1 teaspoonful (bigger or smaller depending on the size of cookies you like) and roll into a ball and place on greased trays.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  4. Press lightly with a fork.
(Note: Don't flatten it, because while baking, it'll naturally get flatter... If you find the mixture too goey and sticking to the fork, lightly flour the fork each time.)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  5. Bake in slow oven (150 degrees Celsius) for 30 minutes or until firm. This will really  depend on your oven.

And viola!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Okay, this was my first time doing the cookies so I wasn't sure how much sugar to cut down so this turned out a little sweet and somehow, a bit too greasy... Plus, one batch got a bit too browned when halfway through baking, the oven ran out of gas and I had to switch tanks and the cookies ended up being in the heated oven slightly longer than planned for... Not to mention, I over-flattened it a bit too much and the cookies went... flat and bigger than anticipated.

But slight hiccups otherwise, this wasn't too bad an attempt. One recipe yields about 40 cookies depending on how big you make each ball of batter... Quite yummy... Love the caramel-y, buttery taste. ^_^

Digi Beyond Prepaid

Posted by eirene83 at 05:09 AM on April 18, 2006 in .

And once again, Digi has added to their features for the pre-paid plan!

Once, it was the first network to offer talktime transfer so if you ever ran short of credit, you could always beg/borrow/steal credit from your willing/unknowing/kind friends/family/relatives... Lol...

Now, they have added 2 other features to their talktime services.

First, you know how you always somehow seem to end up in situations where you're out of credit and absolutely need to make a call? Well, with the feature of talktime advance, you now can make a call then pay later. Of course, there are always terms and conditions. You need to have been a Digi member for at least six months; you get an advance of RM3 which lasts 2 days... and each advance will cost you RM0.50...

Second, Talktime extend... If you're the type of person who gets calls more often than make them but only reload your phone to keep the validity going... this is the feature for you. Now, you can exchange your credit balance for validity. For RM35, you can extend your validity for another 30 days, with the condition that after exchanging, you still have at least RM60...

Okay... so the terms and conditions make it a bit sucky... But I suppose there are people out there willing to pay RM35 to extend their validity instead of just adding to their credit by reloading... But still, I feel like it's quite a progess... Now, to wait for them to make the next move to become more like UK's prepaid plans where there is no such thing as validity... Ah, those days when I can reload £5 and not worry about having to constantly top up balance since there's no time period for me to use it up...

Ooh... and another thing... Digi flexi e-reload has increased the range of denominations you can reload your balance. Where once the minimum used to be RM5... now, you can reload your balance from as low as... RM0.05! How cool is that?? Lol, okay so yeah, who would want to reload their phone with 5 cents... but think about it, now with those spare change from KFC/McDonald's... you can actually use those coins to add to your balance!

Hehehe... Yea, I really like Digi, if you can't already tell... Frankly, I still feel they offer the best rates around for calls to friends and family... And any new feature they come up with, is more often than not, somewhat useful... So yea, be smart; switch to Digi!

[Edit: Oops, my mistake. Reread the advertisement and apparently, it's 5cents from RM5 onwards... So, looks like you still need RM5... plus any loose change you might have...]

Korean Ramen

Posted by eirene83 at 05:19 AM on April 18, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants.

No transport today and nothing handy to munch on to keep the hunger pangs away... So had to raid the pantry and dug out a packet of Korean ramen I bought a few days back.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
SamYang Sutah Ramen, Hot Spicy Flavour, RM1.99

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Each packet is about 2 servings and comes with the usual soup powder and dried vegetables as well as one small packet of chili powder to give the soup an extra kick.

So, after the whole usual bit of boil water, add condiments, chuck in ramen and cook.. (It takes longer than the 2-minute Maggi you're used to... About 4 minutes, I think, for the lot to soften properly...)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Viola... It's pretty good, actually... The soup was made better with the added chili powder. You don't really feel anything, but it leaves this nice tingly feeling at the back of your throat each time you drink the soup.

And the whole thing is even better if you add a half-boiled egg to it. I wasn't in the mood to scrub the pot, so didn't crack the egg into the soup like I usually did. Instead, I boiled the egg separately... (Well, truth be told, I was actually aiming for a hard-boiled egg but kinda misjudge the time and ended up with half...)  But the result was great! Scrape the egg into the hot soup and watch it cook itself slightly... Yummilicious... The yolk just melts in your mouth, and doesn't fall into tiny irritating pieces each time you poke into it... (Of course, if you're worried about bird-flu... then I wouldn't recommend cooking the egg halfway...)

I would probably get this again, just because it's so far the spiciest flavour soup I've come across in Malaysia. The really spicy one that hits your nose and clears your sinus and leaves your lips tingling... Now, that one was the ramen my mom bought from China... It came with chili oil. Now, that was good... Hehehe, too bad my mom only bought one box of it... It finished pretty quickly in the house.

Power failure

Posted by eirene83 at 04:06 AM on April 19, 2006 in .

It's been such a long time since I've experienced power failure... For one, I can't remember any instance where I didn't have electricity in UK... Unless it was when someone tripped the power because their light (it was always the lights...) blew...

Today... It happened twice. Okay, maybe one and a half, since the first one didn't really count. The lights flickered off then back on again during the storm in the afternoon... And then just now, just as my mom finished her movie; my dad was about to do some work and I was about to finish another chapters... The lights went out.

^_^ It was quite an interesting experience. I usually have my handphone with me so I could just use the backlight but recently, I've gotten into the habit of leaving the phone in my room while I'm downstairs (It makes for some interesting marathon experiences running for the phone before whoever it is hangs up (not to mention while trying to dodge a dog nipping at your shins and try to not land on her...) assuming, I even hear it ringing in the first place...) So yeah, my parents and I were fumbling around looking for a candle. My mom always leaves one around in convenient to reach places along with a box of matches, just for situations like this.

Anyhow, turns out it was because they were trying to cut some tree branches on my street that happened to be resting on the power lines; so quite obviously, they had to make sure the current wasn't running... Also explains why it happened so late at night. Can you imagine the fuss the residents would make, cutting off the power in the middle of the day?

Oh well... we all went to bed early... So much for wanting to watch Ouran High School Host Club, episode 2... And another thing that crossed my mind while I was in bed... Way before electricity, people must have gotten more sleep daily than most of us get nowadays. I mean, I personally stay awake until 5am, on average. But if I had to depend on the light of candles to do my work (like study... I'd ruin my eyes within a year!)... I mean, think of how much wood/candles you'd be consuming to generate light to stay up late! So, say on average, sunset was at 6pm? You might at most, be in bed by 8pm to 9... Then say you wake up at 5am to 6am... That makes for about 9 hours of sleep, daily... Frankly, that's a lot compared to my 6 hours daily. An additional 3 hours daily is pure luxury...

So yeah... We humans are unnatural. Thanks to technology, we don't live by Nature's rules anymore... Wonder if that's a good or bad thing...

Creative Zen Vision: M

Posted by eirene83 at 04:29 AM on April 19, 2006.

Sigh.... Another PC Pikom fair has come and gone... and I still am not the proud owner of a Creative Zen mp3... Specifically, the Vision: M.... It's so beautiful... and useful!

Available in 3 colours, the Vision: M plays videos and songs, and displays photos in pure 262k colours. With a memory of 30Gb, you can play 120 hours worth of videos; have 15,000 hours worth of songs at your touch; or show off tens of thousands of photos... All for RM1,200.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Available in black, white and green...

It's not that I'm not happy with the mp3 player that I have now... but it's quite frustrating trying to decide which songs to put into the 512Mb memory, when I have so many to choose from... And well... It won't be some techy-y toy I buy but wouldn't use... This is something that I really really want and I know that I'll be using it...

Sigh... except it's quite difficult to save up money to buy it when I'm not working and have a source of income to draw from... So yea, it's quite a long process... Goodness knows when I'll be able to get it. But one good thing I can think about it, maybe by the time I have enough, the price will have come down (a bit anyway, I hope) or they might have come up with some brand new toy which I would then decide I want more...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Still for now, I can't get the image of the Vision: M out of my mind... Especially the green one. If I ever get it, that will be the colour I'd choose. At least it'll be something different from all the black and white Ipods out there.... And I can't answer why I want this and not the Ipod... Dunno, there's just something about it. It's quite nice and compact, so at least I wouldn't have to worry about it being so fragile that should I accidentally sit on it or drop it in the car, it'll crack...

I WANT!

I want!!

I WANT!!!

T_T... I just really want this... Probably above everything else that I could want materially... (Let's not talk about my wishing to pass the dratted CLP, okay...) and well... it's just so so far out of my reach now... Lol... won't some nice kind friend out there buy this for me? *bats eyelasheS, smile sweetly* Pretty pretty please? Hehehe

Exciting Day!

Posted by eirene83 at 04:43 AM on April 19, 2006 in Fun stuff.

Lol... maybe Steph was right about me and my 'qi' attracting excitement. Hehe... Late last night, Steph called about meeting up for lunch with me and Aileen (I couldn't go online, thanks to the power failure) and between various messages, I conveyed to Aileen how big the task of trying to wake me up was... and how very very difficult. She laughed and said she'd team up with Steph and give me a wake-up call. Several, actually.

So, went to bed happily with the knowledge that my loving, caring, trustable, 'get-your-butt-there-or-I'll-bite-you' friends would get me out of bed. (Keep in mind the power failure... It plays a somewhat twisted role in the adventure today...)

10:30am
Alarm clock went off. Switched it off as usual, went back to sleep since my friends were going to wake me up.

10:45am
Steph: Michelle, wake up. Wake up! Oi... wake up la... Are you awake or not?
Me: *sleepy, mumbly, groggy* nooo... sleepy... want to sleeppp... lemme sleep a bit more...
Steph: Okay, okay... I call you again at 11...
Me: wookaayz... *sleep*

12pm:
Me: *yawns, wakes up feeling refreshed* Eh... why Steph never called wan? *looks at phone...* Eh... Why off already wan?

There was 3 bars of battery left on my handphone when I went to bed. Apparently, over the course of the night and including the above phone call... When Steph and Aileen tried to blast my number with calls trying to wake me up... it promptly keeled over and died. (I was planning to charge it actually... I never leave with house with my phone having 3 bars of battery or less... but well, yea... Like I said above... power failure...)

/sweatdrop

So much for believing my friends could get me awake... In some twisted way, Fate still managed to make it near impossible to get me awake...

/double sweatdrop
*Nervous laugh*

So yeah, lunch was off because by the time I got up and freshened up... I discovered that even though I could still pick up Aileen and make it in time to have lunch with Steph... there was no point... Because my mom took the car.

/triple sweatdrop

Hehehe... BUT! Lunch is on again! For tomorrow! So, let the adventure begin! Again! Hehehehe....

Tea, tea and more tea

Posted by eirene83 at 05:21 AM on April 19, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants, Foodie stuff.

One thing I loved about staying in the UK was the variety of beverages... I mean, I'm just talking about the various alcoholic drinks you can get out clubbing at (when you compare) very reasonable prices... Yeah, it's cheaper to get drunk in UK (and more fun too... and less hassle..) than when in Malaysia... But I digress...

As I was saying... I loved the varieties of teas you could get there. I'm not a tea person... I drink both coffee and tea; it's not like I prefer one over the other... but when I was in UK, I loved going to Tesco or Whittards and looking at the selection there.

What brought this about was, I tried Twinings & Vanilla and Coconut tea today. It was a sample included in the box of Chai tea I bought from Tesco. It was nice. Mild, smooth flavour with a strong hint of vanilla... It's not too bad black (Is that how you refer to it when you take tea without cream or sugar?) but was even better when lightly sweetened with honey. I rarely put sugar in tea anymore... I much prefer honey... Probably coz when I was in UK, I had bought the honey when I had a sore throat and had no other use for it after that...

Actually, it all started when I had Starbucks Chai frappe... It was on impulse really, since I wanted to try something new. The taste was, well, weird... but it grew on me so much that I decided to try and see if I could make it on my own. Well, I didn't... was way too much work... but I ended up drinking the tea with milk and honey since it tasted great. Was wonderful warmer on cold cold days... Unfortunately, not many people seem to appreciate the spices in Chai... I can understand that, though for myself, I adore the taste of spices. Probably thanks to my family...

And Whittards! I went there to get a Christmas present for my mom. She adored drinking coffee and there was this really cute coffee mix set that I thought she might liked (Which she did... along with the rest of my family...) But when I was there, I got tempted into buying a few tubs of their instant tea. 'Dreamtime' was something... really soothing. Not too fruity, but nice and warm... And 'Cranberry & Raspberry'... The flavours were great, and intense unlike tea bags where it's more mild...

There were so many flavours that I didn't get to try them all... I rather regret that I didn't buy the 'Turkish Apple'. When I was young, I remember my parents giving me a sip of apple-flavoured tea from a Turkish stall in Lot 10... It was incredible, that I loved it and pestered my parents to buy it for me... Pity really that when I had the chance to find out whether Whittards had the same flavour, that I didn't...

Sigh... yeah, it would be great if I could get those teas in Malaysia... I've tried, but somehow, all the flavours of tea that Twinings produce... Not all of it make its way to Malaysia... and it's those teas which I want to get... Hrmm, I wonder if Tesco does deliveries to Malaysia... Hehehe...

Mu Gong He, Sri Hartamas

Posted by eirene83 at 04:56 AM on April 27, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants.

Wakakaka.... I did not FFK on Aileen and Steph today! Hehe, Steph even called me at 10.30am to make sure I was awake, and she was like, "Good! You're awake!"... Hehe, I guess one time is experience enough ne... Though... /sweatdrop, I think she still wasn't confident enough in me since she got Aileen to call me at 12pm when she found out that I still wasn't at Aileen's place (I told her I'd pick up Aileen at 12 and be at Hartamas by 12.30ish...)

What actually happened was Aileen called while I was struggling with a handful of coins and ringgit bills at the toll... Lol... Still, made it to her place at 12.15pm, found a place to park and was at Steph's office doorstep at 12.30pm! ^_^ Ta-daaa!!

So the place we went to... Korean BBQ... We had no idea what the idea was saying and he had no idea of we were saying... So how come I got stuck with deciding what to order and being in charge of placing the order? Well... we being poor church-mousy students/working person, couldn't afford the super expensive stuff (our jaws almost, but not quite dropped when we looked at the prices for the meat...) But we still wanted to try the BBQ and along with whatever else we could think of... So, ordered 2 different types of meat (Wanted to order only 1 actually, but apparently, minimum order is 2... so yeaahhh...)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The guy came round to our place and started heating up the BBQ pit with charcoals... there was a moat of water around it... Probably to control the heat? Or to let the fat from the meat drip into it? Dunno...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Then came the loads of tiny plates and dishes of weird, unknown stuff. I didn't count how many there were... But I recall kimchi, brocolli, sweet potatoes, some weird tasting, flat stuff... and uh... yeah, other stuff... We had fun playing with the chopsticks since it was flat. Yea... I always thought chopsticks were round... or square... or something like that... but these were flat, and a literal ache in the palm to use for long...

Oh and in the background, see that tumbler? It's cold tea... roasted tea? I think... Tasted quite nice... At least much better than the corn tea I had at the Korean restaurant in Clayton, Melbourne that my brother took us to. ^_^

(Oh, for those who don't know... Aileen's the one in yellow tank and jeans on the left and Steph is the one in white shirt and gray skirt on the right... I'm the one behind the camera =p)

And ta-daa! The main dish... sirloin, I think... with onions and 1 mushroom (Steph took the mushroom... Neither Aileen nor I eat that...) You can see the dipping sauce... something sourish... with onions in it right in front... Next to it is some sesame-salt oil thingy... then, that flat, weird-tasting stuff and the sweet potatoes behind it...

Oh and this was what we all ordered... Well, actually I ordered first and the other two followed suit. Sliced marinated rib-eye with special sauce... It tasted sweet... In a good way. Had sliced carrots and onions and sesame seeds sprinkled all over it. Wasn't too bad actually... The taste overall was quite nice.

I know I said we ordered 2 types of meat but the the time the other meat came, we were (okay okay fine... I was) too engrossed in eating to take pictures of it. They changed the steel plate used to cook the meat... probably because there were bits of meat burnt to it already...

Overall, the meal for the 3 of us came to RM126... A bit pricy for us... but the food was good, we had fun trying something new and we were all really stuffed. And we had fun laughing over... anime? manga? Something like that... I remember we were talking about Antique Bakery... or was it something else? Can't remember.

Bottomline... I made it to lunch, we had fun... and we're going out for dinner tomorrow. Buffet. Japanese. Us. Small eaters... This should be fun! =)

Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant, One Utama

Posted by eirene83 at 05:23 AM on April 27, 2006 in Food, snacks & restaurants.

So... today's the day we are supposed to tackle Japanese Buffet... and neither Steph nor Aileen has confidence in my memory skills... Totally justified, I suppose, since yesterday after lunch, I hung out at Aileen's place watching House and when I left, I said, "See you Saturday..." and she was like... er, no... tomorrow. Dinner... Heheh, oopsyy... So yeah... Steph called me at 5.30pm to make sure I still remembered the dinner plans... Dinner was at 6.30, I left at 5.40pm... Plenty of time since I was taking the Sprint highway...

Here's something interesting while I was driving the car... (Yeah, I took the picture while driving... Don't worry... I was going less than 20km/h since I was trying to ease into the queue... No, I wasn't trying to cut queue; it wasn't even my fault...)

See those barrier cones? Yeah, they are directly in my lane... Why was I in that lane even though there were barrier cones? Look up. See that green light? Yeah, that's why I was in that lane. I was switching lanes to get to the 'Tunai' lane so from far, all I could see was the green light... Green light + barrier cones = No go = Me trying to squeeze into people's lane... Which also allowed me time to take the photo... I mean, what the?? If you're going to close that lane, change the light!

Anyway, made it to OU with minutes to spare... and I even got a parking space close to the elevators... Bumped into Steph and Aileen on the way to Shogun (they came earlier, thanks to Aileen's mom giving them a lift and bummed at Jusco) and went to claim our reservation for 3.

It's somewhere in the New Wing, near Esquire Kitchen... and that's about all I remember of the directions. You want to know where it is, go look at the directory. Since Steph was worried about being late, we had power-walked there... and when they served us tea, all 3 of us asked for iced tea... Lol... we were hot! Literally! After cooling down, we made our rounds.

The ready food aisle... Things like shisamo, unagi, etc...

The other side of the aisle with rice, noodles etc...

The grill section...

And that was all the photos I managed to take before the manager came rushing up saying that I wasn't allowed to take photos. Oh well... I missed the sushi island bar, teppanyaki and tempura sections and the dessert bar... Anyway, since I couldn't take anymore photos... we went straight to piling our plates with food.

Yuummm!! The white tuna and salmon was so goooddd!! Fresh and sweet and the wasabi was fresh as well! Totally went well together! The tuna practically melted in my mouth... and I love how spicy the wasabi was... My sinus was cleared in no time. The selection of sushi was pretty okay, didn't notice it much... I think they had the prettiest looking onigiri I've ever seen... with pink ebikko on top... or was it sliced ginger? Don't know... didn't try... But I love their hand rolls... Okay, more like I love the nori and the wasabi I dipped it into...

Let's see... the tempura was okay... Nothing that great... but the sauce was way too salty... Along with some of the vegetables we took. Teppanyaki was different from what I expected. Instead of choosing the type of meat we wanted, we could choose the vegetables (from brocolli to kai lan to shittake mushrooms and others), udon... and the types of meat we wanted...

The grilled section was... salty... I would just recommend sticking to the sushi/sashimi sections. Hehehe.... sashimi goodd!!

We reached at 6.30 (the time they open...) We left at 10... (The time they closed...) And in those 4 hours, we got royally stuffed... Dessert selection was quite small: cakes, konyaku jelly, fruits and ice-cream... And and about 10 different types of juices... The reason I know? Because while Aileen was trying to dig for her scoop of ice-cream (It's never as easy as it looks, probably since the ice-cream is frozen hard..) I walked up and down, sampling all the juices... Hehehe...

Oh... and I think Steph was right about my 'qi' and excitement... Because when we both went for our ice-cream, (We both took cake first while Aileen took ice-cream).. I was looking around waiting for my turn with my scoop when I heard Steph squeal. Turned, looked... "Eh, what's her handbag doing in the ice-cream?... Ooohh..." Hehehe... Sorry Steph. I'll stay further away from you next time.

Anyway, by the time we went to pay our bill (RM165), we were all having difficulties trying to walk. Yeah, problem with girls going for buffet. We'll never manage finish trying everything and end up over-eating trying to sample all the food... Heheh... Still, it was fun! As agreed, we should probably do stuff like that more often... Try new restuarants! (Maybe when we've replenished our wallets first, though ^_^)

Or just paranoia?

When I can see
my feelings clearly,
lady or host,
it doesn't matter.
The reason for which
people fall in love
is different for everyone, but -
MAYBE YOU'RE MY LOVE

I want to meet you now
and give you, a sweet person,
a cherry blossom kiss.
If your heart moves from it,
let's have a romantice love!
More important than the future

The delightful spring love is

Desire

Snitched this off House, season 2 episode 13...

Ryan Adams, Desire

Two hearts fading, like a flower.
And all this waiting, for the power.
For some answer, to this fire.
Sinking slowly. The water’s higher.
Desire

With no secrets. No obsession.
This time I'm speeding with no direction.
Without a reason. What is this fire?
Burning slowly. My one and only.
Desire

You know me. You don't mind waiting.
You just can't show me, but God I'm praying,
That you'll find me, and that you'll see me,
That you run and never tire.
Desire

Catchy song... caught my attention ^_^

Anzac Biscuits

I really really love anzac biscuits... The whole oaty taste combined with the treacle-y flavour... So yeah, here's a recipe.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup coconut
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup flour
2/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
125g butter
1 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp hot water

  1. Combine the coconut, oats, flour and sugar in one big bowl. Easy.

  2. Melt the butter with golden syrup in a pan over low heat. Then add the baking soda dissolved in hot water and add it to the mixture.

  3. Pour butter-golden syrup into dry ingredients and mix well.

  4. Place tablespoonfuls of the mixture onto greased trays and bake for 8-10 minutes at 160o C.

And viola!... Though I'm not really too happy... Somehow it didn't turn out the golden brown colour I pictured and remembered it being... And the taste isn't quite the same either... Sigh, not quite one of my best efforts... and this is my second time trying it too. I must source out different recipes and find out where I'm going wrong... But still, quite tasty anyway... Since I added black pepper to the last bit of mixture... Nice, spiciness to it... ^_^

Deja vu feeling...

Posted by eirene83 at 04:25 AM on April 29, 2006.

Hehe... Steph and Aileen seem shocked to see me online BEFORE midnight... Yeah, quite surprising since I hardly ever appear unless it's 3am or something... Call me your friendly nocturnal lurker... Came back from dinner with my parents.... at Mu Gong He... <rolls eyes> Why is it that when my brother tries out new places, that's the end of the story but when I try out something new, I have to take my parents there to try? It's not even like my parents scheduling some time to go check it out on their own, I have to be there, show them the place, recommend stuff... Eesh...

Still, benefit of eating with parents... No budget... muakakakaka... Can't remember what we ordered... I recall BBQ (like duh... why else would we be there?), some sort of rice with Korean sambal?... and yeah, that's about it.... Oh and due to influence from watching waayyy too many Korean dramas, my parents encouraged me to order shoju... Kinda like rice wine, I think... Smooth, almost flavourless but with a sweet after-taste and minimal burn on the way down... Though if you do shots, like my dad did, it kinda can get to your head.

Hmmm.... Maybe I should have told my parents showering and washing hair before going there wasn't such a great idea... Y'know, BBQ in your face; cold meat meeting hot steel equals... interesting food smells on hair, clothes and body... One thing that was different today? I got burned... many many times... by that damned BQ pit... My knees are all nicely reddened by now... and I got hot oil dripped onto my foot when the waitress was removing the steel plate... I'm suprised it didn't blister when first, the hot oil hit my leg, and then because of reflex I flinched away... and banged my knee hard against the very very hot plate. O_O Sigghhh...

Anyway, dinner wasn't too bad... My mom had fun, enjoyed herself, got to drink shoju and bought a bottle of plum liquor on the way home from the Japanese/Korean grocery store there... and got the owner of the shop to give her a shot glass. And I'm a little high, all freshly cleaned up (Again...) and watching my parents finish the bottle of shoju and crack open the plum liqour... Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go sample a bit of it.. =p

Life's not easy... But it's simple

Posted by eirene83 at 04:51 AM on April 29, 2006 in Thoughts, Personal as a favorite post.

House, season 2 episode 11:

Stacy: Everything's easy when you don't care if you hurt anyone.

House: You already did the hurting part. He just doesn't know it yet.

Stacy: If I never tell him, it'll never hurt. I want not to love Mark. I want to hate you. I want all of this to be simple, but it's not.

House: You can either have a life with me, or you can have a life with him.  It can't be both. It's not easy. But it is simple.

I wonder if life is really all that simple... Maybe it is. The choices are clear and simple but it's the putting thought to action that's the difficult part. Conflicting what's right and what's wrong; what would just be easy, running away and settling. I think the difficulty comes when we know what we want... but don't know if we can go through with it.

I was talking to an old friend a few days back. And well, we agreed. Life is always this constant balance between doing what is right and doing what you want. It's not impossible... but it can be a difficult price to pay: A balance between a wish not to hurt others and not wanting lie awake at 3am aching and feeling regret.

I mean, can we honestly say that we do what we want all the time? We're always constrained by what society thinks, by what we ourselves think is the right thing to do... by every minute consideration including not wanting to seem selfish... But when we think and act based on our desires, that's when we're being the most honest, the most sincere. When we do what feels right and not what everyone says is right.

And well... everyone gets the chance, I think... Life's never that unfair... I think we're always being given chances and 2nd chances over and over again... But sometimes, we never dare seize it because of a hundred different reasons... But I think all the chances that we've lost... will come back to us one day. Maybe in a way you never expected... Maybe when it's no longer something you see as important... But I think it will... And maybe... when that day comes, it doesn't matter how long we wait... the time will come when we're no longer afraid and hesitant when what we want is right in front of us.
