5 years

Posted by eirene83 at 05:03 AM on February 17, 2006.

That's what the 5 Thai nationals got as a sentence for causing the death of Darren Kang. Their charge was amended from murder to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, to which they pleaded guilty.

Damn it. I understand from the point of law that, if the act is done with knowledge that it is likely to cause death, but without any intention to cause death, the maximum punishment that can be handed out is 10 years imprisonment, a fine, or both... I can understand that... but it doesn't make it any more fair. They knew that the extent of injuries could cause death, they had to know... but damn it, we can't say they intended him to die... and that changes the entire offence and subsequently, the sentence.

So maybe what they say about him being hot-tempered is true. So maybe he contributed to the attack. So maybe he was a troublemaker. But so what? It's not like he was the only person to have those characteristics. I can't say much since I didn't know him well... but what I did know... he could be friendly and caring... he was friendly and caring. He wasn't afraid to stand up for what he believed in.

It's close to 2 years now since he died. The sentence is supposed to be served from the date of their arrests. In another 3 years, they'll be free to go. It's not fair. I know that asking for a more deterrant sentence won't accomplish anything, except perhaps, maybe, to act as a warning to others... but if you follow that, what did attacking Darren accomplish? What was the point in the parties beating him up like that, probably thinking to teach him a lesson?

Thinking all this is pointless. The only thing would be I vent out my frustration at the sentence. But anyway, there's still hope for the prosecution appeal against the sentence. Sigh...

My Johari Window

Posted by eirene83 at 01:13 AM on February 19, 2006.

I swiped this from Andrew's blog.... Here's an explanation of what it's supposed to be:

Johari Window was invented by Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingram in the 1950s as a model for mapping personality awareness. By describing yourself from a fixed list of adjectives, then asking your friends and colleagues to describe you from the same list, a grid of overlap and difference can be built up.

Haha, I had a hard time narrowing it down and limiting myself to 6 adjectives. It's just that any one personality is so much more than 6 words; so much more complex. But it was quite interesting to find the ones that you felt was most dominant.

Anyway, would appreciate you all filling it out for me here if you're all free or bored:

My parents are scary

Posted by eirene83 at 01:51 AM on February 19, 2006.

But wait, this is how it happened.

Today was great. I woke up early (fairly) and did my laundry. My dad went to MV for some thing or other and wow, he's scarier than my mom when left alone on his own. It's like, my mom goes shopping alone and she comes with laden with so much stuff, it's like impulse shopping or something: jeans, handbags, tops, etc... along with groceries and other sundries stuff. So today, my dad came back and the whole car was packed. Granted, it's a small car... but this is my dad. I didn't even know he could shop! I had to drag him to get CNY clothes!

So... lunch today was sushi and coconut, thanks to my dad. ^_^ Hehe, must have been that time I came back with sushi that inspired him to get some as well. And as if that wasn't shocking enough, my dad suggested we go to KLCC. Two malls in one day. Seriously. To me, it's really unheard of since my dad has always wondered where we get the energy from to go from one place to another the whole day and here he was, going to KLCC.

Wheee, haven't been there for so long! My mom and I were given permission to roam as we like from my dad, so... yeah, I followed her shopping. She wanted shoes: went to most of the shoe shops. Nope, nada, zilch... my mom wears size 3 shoes. Even for Asian standards, that's tiny. No luck. So next, she went Giordano and tried on capri pants. Muahaha, I tempted her to it. Damn... my mom's really small! Literally. I'll just say that her waist is smaller than mine... and leave it at that.

Well.. she liked some stuff and there was 15% discount for J-card holders... but you get 20% if it's your birthday. So she decided to wait for my birthday. Here's the funny thing. My brother's birthday is tomorrow (somehow my mom and I forgot about that until later) but we decided there was no point in asking Kelvin since asking him for favours is like... ugh... Hehe, though I can't believe we both forgot that 17th was his birthday...

Oooh, I got a hair brush from Evita Peroni... and yes, it bears mentioning because it's something I wanted for some time. It's not just some hair brush. It's really good quality and frankly, I can feel the difference brushing my hair with it. Went a few other places but the brush was the only purchase of the day.

So, finally went to the food court. My parents had some weird dessert, couldn't tell what it was... and I had Yoshinoya again! Spicy crispy chicken and salmon combo and tuna onigiri. Combo: Good. Onigiri: So-so... Shall trying making my own from now on. It's just too heavily salted and too little tuna, frankly. But the combo was good, even my parents agreed on that.

It was close to 5 by then, so time to leave. And here's why my parents are scary. You know that car advert in the papers where you see this little boy in swimming trunks left behind and his parents driving off? Kinda like the Home Alone thing?

My parents drove off without realising I wasn't in the car. The car doesn't have central locking so usually my parents will open the lock for me. My dad thought my mom did it, my mom... forgot. /sweatdrop

I called my dad. It's mobile to mobile, so Caller ID right? I told him, your daughter's not in the car... and you know what he asked?

Who are you?

/double sweatdrop

I told him to go look at the back of the car.

My parents are scary. I can't believe they can NOT NOTICE their daughter wasn't in the car. And thank god we made my mom wear the neck brace despite the doctor saying it was okay, just minimal turning left and right. Because her immediate reaction was: Harrr?? *turn to look behind*

/sigh

So yes, dear people... that's why I think my parents are scary. Make sure your parents
a) have a central unlocking car
b) aren't as absent minded as that
or failing which
c) go shopping on your parents' account and use public transportation back.

Manicure

Posted by eirene83 at 01:21 AM on February 21, 2006.

I think Aileen and I irritated quite a fair bit of people in class today. She had a cousin's wedding dinner to go for and she wanted to do her nails. I mean, it kinda makes sense since we have 5 hours and we don't need to write anything. She brought everything that she needed, so she gave herself a manicure, everything from the base coat to applying little beads and accessories and topping it all off with one final layer of varnish.

I got bored and started doing my nails too (It's this pretty shade of pearly white)... Between us two, we managed to cause the people around us to inhale nail polish fumes for 3 hours. I know Gary was feeling pretty faint by the time we finished, and I definitely heard the people behind us breathing through their mouths. Ah well, we seem to tend to irritate them a lot anyway, for some reason. I have no idea why though...

Oh yeah, major occasion. Shaun came to class. And apparently will as well, tomorrow. Things should be fun. Though I think he and Aileen will only show up after the first session with Sukhdave. Today, I think he came more because there's a booster tournament at KL Sentral at 5. Gary went with him. Maybe it's just because I haven't seen him in a while, but Shaun seems to be more... effeminate now. Well, there's certainly a lot of of those hand waving around and stuff, but maybe that's just me.

Got my hard disk back from Gary filled with goodies... so now, to wait for a free day to indulge! ^_^ Hehehe... yaayyy.... Hrm, totally scatter-brained post. Shall sleep.

P/s: Oh oh, I forgot something that happened during dinner... Babby, remember that time we were frying rice and I was going to add pepper but the cover came off and this whole lump of pepper fell out? We ended up adding more rice to make it less peppery and had to eat fried rice for 3 days straight? Hehe, during dinner just now... my brother was going to add pepper to his lobster soup. I think he must have thought there was a cover on the pepper holder, coz he unscrewed the top and poured! Hehehe... He was about to stir when he looked down... So had to scoop out this whole lot of pepper... which was probably what we should have done la, back then... ^_^

Waaah!!

Posted by eirene83 at 01:35 AM on February 21, 2006.

My class time table from today onwards:

Saturday: 9am to 7.15pm
Sunday: 9am to 7:15pm
Monday: 1pm to 9pm
Tuesday: 1pm to 9pm
Wednesday: 1pm to 9pm

Waaah!! Can die laaa!!! I set my alarm clock this morning for 10.30am, since I figured I should leave at 12 to get to MV and take a KTM to be able to make it in time for class (it's the KTM's fault! Otherwise I wouldn't need to go so early!)... My mom woke me up at 11.30am T_T 30 minutes to wake up, get ready, have breakfast, pack food, drive, find parking and take KTM to reach by 1pm

T_T

Surprisingly... I actually made it. Without rushing too. Probably was really lucky. Found parking almost immediately and the train arrived about after 4 minutes of waiting. Plus class only started at 1.20pm since a lot of people came late. Probably out of habit, with class usually starting at 2.

Heheh, going to bed at 11pm yesterday certainly had its benefits, despite my waking up late. I stayed awake throughout the whole 8 hours without falling asleep. Had dinner with Mel Mel, Lala, Victoria and a classmate of theirs from A-Levels, Yean Peng. Me had fried kuay teow! Which I didn't manage to finish. As usual. Am I really that small a eater?? /puzzled... The rest all had wat tan hor... Didn't look really good, babby... don't think you'll like it. But the hokkien mee looked good so might try that next time. Or go for bak kut teh. It smells really good.

Hrmm... my shoulder really hurts from carrying my notes and all in my bag. It's so heavy, if I drop my file on someone's toes... it's gonna bruise badly. I know a lot of people wonder why I park at MV and take a train over instead of parking at Asiapark for RM2... but there's benefits to parking at MV. I get to shop around a bit if I have time. Do grocery shopping for my parents. Buy brownies, buns and muffins for my mom and I to eat. ^_^

And I also bought nachos from 7-11 since Kelvin wanted Ramlee burger from the stall there for his dinner. Mmmm, maybe I might have that for my dinner tomorrow. ^_^ Damn... hungry again... but need to sleep T_T need to be fresh for my 8 hour class tomorrrow... T_T Nights people...

And dammit... my Streamyx is driving me nuts!! I don't know why on earth is it so slow!! And what are they doing to make my dsl keep dropping??? Grrr!!!!

9 am class and I went to bed at 4am... but didn't feel too sleepy throughout the day. I marvel at myself.

Char siew pau for breakfast then followed Mel Mel, Lala and Victoria to lunch at the mamak place since Aileen and Gary conveniently skipped the 9am to 12pm class.... Siggh, just because it's Sukhdave... and frankly, I don't think he's all too bad. The worst of all is Baljit... and we're gonna have him for the next 3 weeks. Can die...

It's only now with 8 - 9 hour classes near daily that I realised... time reaaalllly starts to crawl by at the last 30 to 60 minutes of class.... It's torturous how the lecturer knows this and repeatedly make us groan over the fact. Especially when it looks like it's about to rain since he knows half of us will escape the minute he gives a break since no one wants to get caught in the rain.

Had so little during the day, was really really hungry by dinner. Had this glutinous rice wrapped with fried dough thingy (can't explain it... It's some Chinese snack sold along with yau char kuai at the stall along Old Klang Road) and bak kua before dinner... and a really abnormally big plate of rice. For those of have seen me eat rice... yeah, let's just say what I had today is about what you all normally have... With curry crab and papadom! ^_^ Yummmmm!!!! Me like-y! But after the mamak lunch, it really didn't seem spicy at all.

Mmmm.... fell asleep while waiting for the bathroom to be empty. It's at times like these, I really wished showering was optional... unfortunately, it's not... and I had to wash my hair too. T_T le sigh... Well, it's 11pm and my eyes keep drooping so I'm gonna go take a nap or something before bed

Whee, my mom woke me up today at 11.30... for my 9am class... I guess my constantly changing timetable really got them mixed up. So I missed the first session but bumped into everyone when going for the second session. Maan, there was only about 30 of us in class. But then again, it makes sense since it GP for the part timers and most of the rest already went for that (I was sick that week, so didn't manage to go)

I bumped into Steffi at the staircase... which was why I was still there when the horde of CLP students came flooding out. Hehe, everyone was so interested to know why I was there for the 2pm class but didn't show for the 9am class. Weeelll, it's always easy to lump everything together and say I wanted to go get the notes. ^_^

It's something new to be really alone in class. Everyone else had already attended or didn't plan to go at all. It's quite nice, actually. I don't have to give reasons about why I dozed off, or be distracted and start holding a conversation. I can just keep quiet and do what I want. Niceee... and besides, others tend to approach you less if you're with a group of friends. I mean, 4 people talked to me today and asked me stuff... So I guess it's just because I was alone and not surrounded by a group of people, that's why.

Had rice for dinner... Thai... yucky. I think the restaurant changed chefs or something... Normally, it's really really good... but unfortunately... even the desserts were bad.

Me sleepy... me lazy.... me not able to get online pisses me off... T_T

I'm so tired... It didn't help that my dad woke me up 20 minutes before class was supposed to start... Trying to write down answers while not falling asleep is really really difficult. It got to the point I didn't even have the energy to lift my pen, much less drag it across the paper. At that point, I took a nap.

Sigh... I can't believe I was so tired that I couldn't even scrawl down answers.

Well, not having anything to eat until 2pm probably contributed as well. Nasi lemak and banana cake. Probably one of the cheapest meal I've had at Brickfields... since I didn't follow anyone out.

Tired. Hungry. Don't know what to eat. No energy to think. T_T

Wheee.... skipping class during the dinner break to go MV was a great idea. It was only about 45 minutes of class left, so I decided to just ciao early and enjoy a nice sit-down dinner. Though... with my incredibly, unbelieveable luck, despite leaving Brickfields at 7.30pm, I only got to MV at 8.30... T_T stupid KTM with their delays!

Went Sushi King! I was actually torn between Sushi King and Little Penang or going back for Ramlee burger... but I kept tasting Californian temaki in my mouth... Yummm, it's nice sitting there all alone, without the obligation to have to make conversation with someone... And I sat right at the counter and watched them make my temaki. Best part about going close to closing time? Nearly all the sushi are gone and if you want anything, they make it fresh for you. There wasn't much left on the kaiten belt...

Yumm... and I thought nabeyaki udon came with egg? And naruto? So how come I got crabsticks? Damn weird... but still yummy and they actually got the order right. Another plus point to going late, no other customers to fight for attention with.

Sat there till about 9 when I saw them cleaning up and clearing things away for the next day. I finished my dinner quite fast so was just sitting there enjoying my dinner. So paid up (dammit, 21cents short of being able to pay with card...) and went grocery shopping for my mom. Again.

Rice, milk, light bulbs, etc etc etc.... Just made it into the 10 items or less counter... Luckily. But everything was so heavy when I got back, that I didn't have any limbs left to open the gate. Bags here, bags there, water bottle under arm, file balanced on leg. I literally couldn't move after ringing the door bell. ^_^

Nice day, made even nicer by me giving myself some quality time by missing 45 minutes of class. ^_^

Another day of cutting class... Left at 5 today, after the first session. Didn't feel like staying for the next class, so had a great time going window shopping by myself. I missed the train and the next one was going to be another 30 minutes, so wandered around KL Sentral looking at shoes and bags and clothes. So many nice things that I want... except I already have more than enough shoes and bags. As it is, I don't rotate the usage enough so I can't justify the purchase of more.

So today was, window shopping and lots of it. I walked the length of every single floor, stopping for dinner at 7.30pm. Little Penang's nasi lemak today. I always have the curry mee so went for a change... though it would have been nice if I could have eaten both, and have dessert on top of that.

Hahaha, I know I have understanding friends and mom I can drag to every single store and try on anything I want, but there's always the niggling feeling in case they have something they want to do themselves, so today I went around trying all the stuff I've always wanted to try...

So many nice things I want to buy! But must resist temptation... money is to be saved for my Creative Zen Vision: M.... Frankly, it's just adding to the stuff I have... and my room is already bursting at the seams, if that's possible. I can't justify getting another bag or another pair of shoes unless I can show myself I'll make full use of it to make it worth the purchase.

Ahhh... happily satisfied today... but maan, my feet hurts!

Banzai! Banzai! Weekend!!!

Muakakakaka.... day for me to sleep in... though I had to go to the bank with my mom. Hehe, she said something so funny last night. Since we had to go to the bank, she told me to wake me up and I was like, why? what for? I wake up at 9, I wake up at 12... the bank is still going to be open anyway, so why need to wake up early for?

Hehehe... my dad had to agree with me.

Banzai! Weekend!!.... So nice to laze and sleep. No plans whatsoever, not have to do anything... But of course, down side to weekend for me is also, I never have any clue what to eat for dinner. T_T

Wah, tired!

Posted by eirene83 at 12:30 AM on February 27, 2006.

On the spur of the moment, my mom decided that she wanted to go out and go shoe-shopping. So, I drove to MV, where this guy and I fought for the same parking space (I was there first, he never noticed me!) but he was quite nice and gave the spot to me when he 'noticed' me there... and got a spot a few cars away. Took my mom to KL Sentral where she got a few tops and looked at shoes. Unfortunately, there wasn't any in her size and she wasn't satisfied with such a short outing...

So we crossed the road and took the Monorail to Sungai Wang. I made a mistake and bought tickets to Times Square... but anyway, it's just one stop away from Bukit Bintang and Sungai Wang was just next door so we walked over. Jeezzz, we must have walked into every single shoe shop in Sungai Wang! It was also partly because we saw this woman wearing a really cute pair of shoes that had a ring of beads around the ankle and she said she got it at Sg. Wang, so my mom and I were determined to find it.

Well... no luck. We only found 1 shop selling something like it, and it really wasn't cute at all... And out of all the shops at Sg. Wang that sells shoes (and trust me, there really really is a lot there...) she couldn't find anything she wanted... It's so fiendishly easy yet tiring to shop for shoes with my mom... Just walk in and ask for the smallest size. Chances are, it would still be too big. T_T So tiring!! All the designs she liked were just a tiny bit too big and my mom refuses to wear insoles because it's uncomfortable! I myself couldn't find anything despite seeing this gorgeous pair of shoes with wedge heels... because I need something with low heels that's more sensible to walk in for 4 hours +.

Still, it's not like we totally came away empty-handed. My mom got a top for my dad from PDI (though she wouldn't believe me when I said she should get one size larger), some dragon beard candy (that stuff is good! I remember once there were giving away samples at KLIA during some Chinese culture exhibition or something) and I finally managed to get some A4 paper in the shade of red I've been looking for.

And after all that trekking around and hitting every shoe shop, my mom finally found a pair of shoes in her size and in the style she wanted! At Vincci of all places! Hehehe, finally... today wasn't a total loss since she managed to get what we were looking for.

Hehehe, and I got this as a birthday present from my mom too! Meet Wasabi-chan!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hehe, and that's Marshmallow in front of him. Aren't they cute? I can't believe my mom not only didn't complain about the amount of toys I already have on my bed that I don't have any space to sleep on but also allowed me to get it. Heeeee....!! ^_^ Sabi-chan!!!

Jeez! Express counter!

Posted by eirene83 at 02:26 AM on March 1, 2006 in .

I really get so annoyed sometimes with some of the Malaysian shoppers! While paying for my groceries at Carrefour today, this woman and her husband rolled up to the cashier and started unloading all their things onto the counter. I mean, I was standing right there waiting to pay, but she acted as if I wasn't there and inched into my personal space and forced me to go forward. That's so irritating...

And I got even more annoyed looking at the mountain of snacks she bought... not because of anything, but I was paying for my things at the 10 items or less counter!!! I mean, c'mon... be considerate lah... If you're doing your weekly shopping or buying things for a party and obviously have more than 10 items in your basket, don't hog that cashier. It's meant for people who don't have a lot of things to pay for or are in a rush. It really defeats the whole purpose of having an express lane. But the cashier didn't say anything and I was already paying so well, I couldn't quite tell her off... but jeezzz.... or maybe she and her husband can't count. Yeah, could be it... Or she can't read.... Or, she just doesn't care like some Malaysian shoppers out there.

I'm not saying all the shoppers are horrible. It's just the minority that make shopping such an unpleasant experience. Is it just me? Or have any of you experienced that before too?

Shopping is so fun! I missed the train today... so I bought this pair of shoes for my mom while waiting for the next train. It was on clearance sale at Jusco, since they were trying to get rid of the 'unpopular' stock like odd sizes, etc... Which meant I found something in my mom's size 3!!! *happy!!* It's this sweet green tweed material shoe... so nice! And well, the fact it was majorly discounted was a plus point too. Anyway, most of the shops are having clearance/pre-stock take/post stock-take sale...

And I got dragged into this mascara promo thingy... This guy was trying to sell me some mascara made with all-natural ingredients or something. Weird... I have to admit that it did feel better than the usual mascara I've used. Less harsh and not so stiff and sticky... well, probably only girls would know what I mean... And removing it was quite easy as well. No loss of lashes at all and no need for make-up remover. Just water did the trick. I was quite tempted... but I have never ever spent RM160 on makeup before... and it's not something I'm quite comfortable with. Anyway, I don't apply makeup often so no need for new mascara... but when I do, I think I'd probably consider getting that brand... Tsuya Tsuya, I think.

Made it to the next train and walked into class nearly 40 minutes late... but I got the vague feeling like I didn't miss much and the lecturer hadn't progress really far into the notes... so yay, me!

Went back shopping again after dinner at Shokudo (it sucks... I'm not going to review it but ask me if you're interested) and got myself a pair of velvet heels from Esarli. I was actually torn between it and this pair of maroom heels from Vincci... They were both sooo nice and the Vincci pair was on discount too! But what tipped the balance away from Vincci was the fact that due to the design of the shoe, there was this bit of cord that poked really painfully into my foot and made it too uncomfortable to walk for long. T_T sigh.... I really really liked it too.

^_^ But then, the pair I got is this gorgeous emerald green velvet that be really good for when I start work in an office. And it's low heeled! ^_^

Oh and there's this charity book drive going on, where if you bring in 3 books, you get a 500g pack of brown rice. I'm not a fan of brown rice and I don't eat at home much anymore... but I had books I didn't want anymore and my mom wanted brown rice... so I got rid of the books and my mom has brown rice to eat tomorrow. ^_^

Hehehe, anyway... time for bed. I just scrounged up some interesting new recipes and I really want to give them a try soon. Maybe sometime this week!
